Summer 2017, Day 3: Black Hills Booze

I was 7 months pregnant on this trip.

Which meant J had a full-time designated driver.

Firehouse Brewing Company Beer Offerings

The Jackalopes enjoying a beer flight. Wally was a little salty about the events at Wall Drug but he perked up after the beer.

We stopped at Firehouse Brewing Company in Rapid City, SD for lunch. J had a liquid lunch and I enjoyed the beer cheese soup and an entire basket of beer bread. They have the BEST beer bread I have ever had. All they will tell me about it is that they make it with the stout – I suspect they actually make it with the mash or the spent grain from when they brew the stout. It’s a dense, dark, moist bread that is just lovely. Especially if you’re a carb-craving pregnant lady.

I digress.

From Firehouse Brewing Company we headed to Hill City, SD for a stop at Prairie Berry Winery. We’ve stopped here before and I wanted to get a bottle of Red-Ass Rhubarb wine for the future. Since our last visit, the winery owner has also started brewing beer and opened a brewery just down the hill. So, we trotted down the hill for a stop at Miner Brewing Company.

After J enjoyed his beers and wines, it was time to head further west.

J let me wear his polarized sunglasses so he was wearing mine…

We stopped for an early dinner (first dinner?) at Strawberry Picnic area just south of Deadwood, SD.

On to Devil’s Tower, WY.
