Summer 2017, Day 1: Home to Mitchell, SD

In 2017 we decided to revisit some of the parks we had enjoyed on our first trip together back in 2008. This felt appropriate as I was 7 months pregnant with our child and it seemed like a good way to celebrate this chapter in our lives.

And I REALLY wanted some good frybread tacos.

We started out from home on Saturday, May 27th.

Our first stop was breakfast.

Followed almost immediately by a restroom stop.

Then another.

Then another.

Another…

You get the idea. Pregnant women have to pee a lot.

We met up with my cousin in Kansas City and enjoyed a late lunch at Cafe Gratitude – which is a great place for interesting vegan and vegetarian entrees and desserts.

Then we were on the road again and ended our first day on the road by camping at Lake Mitchell Campground in Mitchell, South Dakota. This is a great, out-of-the-way campground in a small town famous for its World’s Largest Bird Feeder Corn Palace.
