After a delightful breakfast with our friends at Super Mini Walnut Cafe it was time to head east towards home.
In Burlington, CO I happened to see an odd road sign.
A carousel?
Let’s check it out.
It took us a bit to find it but it was soooo worth it.
The Kit Carson County Carousel was the sixth of seventy four carousels manufactured by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company between 1904 and 1933. It is the only carousel in the US to still have original paint on both the horses and the scenery panels and the only remaining menagerie carousel manufactured by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company.
And it’s fully operational.
And that thing books. It was fast. You really had to hold on.
All of this… and it cost a quarter per person to ride.
We had a fantastic time.
We arrived safely home around 11pm.
Final mileage was 3,920. We briefly considered driving another 80 miles just so we could break 4,000 miles… but we were tired and had to work the next day.
